PROUD FINISH FOR OPEN ROAD STUDENTS

22 Mar 2010

The first group of students have completed their Automotive Technology qualification at Open Road

Students from Downham Market High School will be waving the chequered flag proudly this month as they become the first group to complete their Automotive Technology qualification at Open Road West Norfolk.

The successful students were presented with their certificates at an awards ceremony on Thursday 25th March. Open Road West Norfolk was officially opened in September 2009 and offers young people the opportunity to gain some under-the-bonnet technical and engineering skills along side their school studies.

Terry Smith, Open Road Project Manager, commented: "This is a fantastic achievement for these young people and I'm thrilled with the energy and enthusiasm that they have all put into the course. The Downham Market team are all on target to achieve their second qualification before their training ends on the 27th May."

"These qualifications will stand them in good stead for a future career and now they all have the confidence to go on and achieve in life!" added Terry.

David Lennard Jones, Area Director for Children's Services in West Norfolk, said: " We are all delighted to see the success that these young people have had at Open Road. Downham Market High School has done well to recognise how motivating it can be for young people to participate in the wider learning opportunities that organisations such as Open Road can offer."

The awards ceremony will also be attended by a group of school representatives from across the region who are interested in finding out about the progress made by the Downham Market students and how the experience has changed the their attitude towards learning.
