NORWICH CITY OF CULTURE 2013

10 May 2010

Back the Norwich bid

Norwich has been shortlisted to be the 1st UK City of Culture in 2013.

2013 City of Culture status would signal a step-change in Norwich's ambitions to exploit its heritage, cultural assets and location to the benefit of the city, county and wider region.

It would build Norwich's external profile by promoting it as a confident, forward thinking city of innovation and creativity.

Norwich plans to utilise Liverpool's legacy from 2008 European City of Culture, which helped to generate over £950m additional income for the wider North-west region that year including £660m to Liverpool alone, with specific private sector support estimated at around £25m. Being 2008 European City of Culture also repositioned Liverpool's image with its citizens, businesses and the media, and sustained growth by attracting inward investment in the longer term.
