A11 Campaign

On 17 November, Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon announced that the dualling of the A11 would be brought forward to 2010, eighteen months earlier than expected. A report by Atkins consultants concluded the scheme would bring over £600m in benefits- £557.5m to the Norfolk economy in time spent working rather than in traffic, and a further £136m to the wider economy. This result was the outcome of a four month intensive campaign representing the most significant alliance of businesses and communities in Norfolk and Suffolk.

At the end of 2009 and the start of 2010 a public inquiry was held into the road scheme, we are now awaiting the inspector's report which is due to be published towards the end of April. The start of the general election campaign means that a final decision from the government is unlikely until after polling day. SNF and partners are continuing to keep up the pressure by making dualling the A11 a key priority for candidates in the general election so that the road scheme can finally be given the green light once the election has taken place.
